History

Explorer  was founded in 1962 and settled in Duitama, Boyacá, Colombia, as a small business dedicated to repair electric motors for some industries in the region and because of new requirements from clients, such Acerías Paz del Río, Bavaria, Cementos Boyacá, Cementos Paz del Río, Siderúrgica de Boyacá, Maguncia, and others.

Between 1965 and 1985 became necessary the extension and improvement of infrastructure to offer new services like repairing of higher power and voltage engines, low voltage transformers, cells manufacturing and assembly, electrical panels, control centers of industrial process, electrical installations, direct supply of equipment and electrical material.

In 1990 started the new headquarters construction, to anticipate and face the increasing and demanding market requirements. It was completed by 1994. In the same year, the electric furnace transformer, shell type of 20MVA15 kV, property of Siderúrgica de Boyacá SA, was successfully repaired. This engineering project became into the first repair and maintenance of high power transformers. Thanks to the great job done in 1995, Explorer Industries, received the National Business Development Award (Premio Nacional al Desarrollo Empresarial) given by Business Development Organization (Organización para el Desarrollo Empresarial OPADE) and Business and Human Development Corporation (Corporación para el Desarrollo Humano y Empresarial CODHE). Since that year, a lot of ​works of great importance and significance to national sectors (electrical, iron and steel, and cement) have been made. The company has settled as a leader in providing of those services.

Along with the technical growth and the pursuit of continued improvement of services, in 1996, the company begun to design and install a quality system to ensure total satisfaction of internal and external clients. The quality system was determinant to get ISO 9002 Certification, 94, given by the international organization Bureau Veritas Quality International for the maintenance and repair of distribution transformers and medium and high voltage transformers.

In 2003, the system was adjusted by processes, looking for greater satisfaction in clients' needs and expectations. In recognition of improvement, the system was certified again by ISO 9001, 2000.

In 2005 the company got recertification of quality management system and the certification of the Integrated Management System in Quality, Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health by ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 given by Bureau Veritas Certification.
